Re: itchiness in perimenopause - just in case anyone is suffering from itchy EARS, I have a recommendation: an oil my audiologist gave me called Miracell ProEar (sorry for the Amazon link, I’m sure you can find it elsewhere): https://a.co/d/7eWvMNg. It works!
I'm impressed with your whiteboard scheduling! I fly by the seat of my pants most weeks—maybe my life would be a little less stressful if I planned! Anyway, itchy skin was my main peri symptom. It would happen a few times a year and last for 6 weeks or so each time. It was maddening and it was itchy everywhere! I slept right next to a humidifier in my face and slathered on so much lotion. Also, this is the second time I've seen Younger mentioned so maybe I need to watch that.
Thanks! The whiteboard is a big help for me. I still use a paper planner, too. There is clearly some part of my brain that needs to either look up or look down at a thing to remember what I'm supposed to be doing. This peri brain sure can't remember it all!
Honestly, I don't have a humidifier and I bet that is the answer, or at least 90% of the answer. Younger may be too saccharine for you, but if you start it, report back! At the least we can gripe to each other about how none of the subway stops in the show match the addresses lol. Oh, you're on Bedford but you got off on Metropolitan? Interesting.
Hello! Fellow perimenopausal woman here. I wanted to chime in on the itchy skin in case this helps. Of late, I've had weirdly dry skin — not itchy — and I went to the dermatologist a few weeks ago. She said it was eczema, which has never been a thing for me, and gave me a prescription ointment, and two days later, it was gone. But she also asked if I was airing out my house daily, i.e., opening the windows and doors for at least five minutes to improve the air quality, which I wasn't. And she brought up electrolytes. Anyway, I bought two boxes of sugar-free Pedialyte mixes and have been drinking one every other day and airing out the house daily, and it's made a significant difference. PS Yay re: writing a book!!
Marketplace is the only reason I still have an FB account. My lips haven't been itching, but my lower back is extremely dry and itchy - and I use nothing but good lotion!
Fellow dry cracked lip sufferer! Aquaphor and Vaseline are great. I also really like the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I do not do trendy skincare stuff but it’s legit! If they are so itchy that you can’t stop bothering them, I use this O’Keefes cooling chapstick. It won’t heal it but it helps me leave it alone and then I switch to Aquaphor once the itch is tolerable.
I don’t have itchy lips, but I swear by Weleda Skin Food. It’s very hydrating and leaves your lips with a little shine. It’s okay to use a good bit. It starts white but soaks in immediately. I put it outside my lip line a bit and then pat it in.
I like to put a drop of L’Oréal’s glycolic acid on my lips first, let it dry a bit, and then the Weleda. Not sure that would feel very good if you have actively sore lips though.
And - about your lips - just read a thing in the NYT about using nipple cream on your lips, which is pure lanolin!

Hi Emily! Good to know about the air quality, especially since we’re in the same city. Thanks for the congrats! Very early stages, but I’m excited.
Yes to Younger! I have a season left and I don’t want it end.
Same!

What is going on with our backs?! I'm about to buy one of the wooden back scratcher hands from Cracker Barrel. (This is a cry for help.)

Ooh, thank you! The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask came up a bunch in my "research" (air quotes).

Thank you, Annette! Someone recently talked about the Weleda Skin Food. Maybe Jennifer Romolini on Everything Is Fine - ?
