Since I hit “publish” on my last post It Should Be Illegal To Talk About People's Bodies some related content has graced my timeline and I wanted to make a quick part two.
Whew doggies, that Busy Philipps appearance on Lovett or Leave It took off. Crooked Media turned her segment into a video that they shared on TikTok and Instagram. When I saw it, I said to myself, “Well, here we go.” And go we did.
Marielle Elizabeth, a plus-size digital creator, model and writer (Vogue, The Cut) stitched Crooked Media’s video with what she called “FAT GIRL THOUGHTS.” Marielle does what I wish I had done - points out Philipps’ body privilege and the inherent problem of trying to solve a systemic problem like anti-fat bias with an individual solution like weight loss. Watch on IG here and TT here.
Thank you, Marielle.
Related! Lindy West went on a man’s podcast and explained fat liberation to him. He cried. It apparently had never occurred to this man (a doctor!) that being mean to fat people hurts their feelings. West deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom for the work she did for the fat community on this cursed podcast. Listen here.
If you’re a straight-sized person trying to make sense of the Ozempic discourse and why all fat people don’t want to take it and/or lose weight, Lindy does a great job of breaking that down via her personal experience, which spoiler alert, is very similar to mine. You can read more about my experience here: The Politics of Comfort.

Thank you for reading this lil update! I’ll back in your inbox this weekend with a roundup of the books I read in March.
